Bridge and Gate
Vereduhr spans the river as a fortified bridge-gate, controlling the only reasonable entrance into the Underdeep from Eadria. Much of the city lies underground, while its visible presence above is built around the crossing and the gate.
Dwarven Leverage
The city is mostly dwarven and dwarven-led, though trade has made it a melting pot of daring Underdeeplings and gold-minded Eadrians.
The Lands of Aurnoore claim broad authority in the region, but Vereduhr was never conquered. The dwarves reinforce the ambiguity of their position by insisting that Vereduhr is technically part of the Underdeep, a claim that serves them well in diplomacy.
The Lower Market
The lower market is an official, controlled quarter where Eadrians and Underdeeplings trade under dwarven oversight. It is not considered safe, and only the more daring among society tread there.
Vereduhr profits greatly from rare commodities moving between Eadria and the Underdeep. The dwarves charge tolls and taxes as they see fit.
Mutual Fear
Eadrians generally fear the Underdeep, while many Underdeeplings fear the open surface, which they call the Abyss.
The dwarves present themselves as protectors in both directions. Much of this is theater, but the theater itself helps preserve a tense peace.
Aurnoore
Vereduhr is respected and somewhat envied by Aurnoore, though political opinion among Aurnoorian leadership is divided and complex. The general populace of Aurnoore has little interest in the Underdeep.
