The few who have gone far at all into The Waste describe it as a terrifying mixture of horrible creatures and shadows of former grandeur, suddenly abandoned by the presence of some great evil.

Deadrock is the perilous overland ascent between Delmara and Eadria. Delmarans know it as The Waste; Eadrians know it as Deadrock.
