The Old Way is followed by sages known as Eldiri, or Oldiri in older speech.

The Eldiri

The sages of the Old Way, or Oldiri in older speech, were once regarded warily among the rulers of the realm.

In the last century or so they have gained increased respect thanks to the rise of Yanis, the Sage King of the Argent Isles.

Seekers of Knowledge

The Old Way is not chiefly concerned with conquest, industry, or the advancement of nations. Its sages pursue knowledge and the unknown for their own sake, seeking hidden things with patience, discipline, and wonder.

These seekers of knowledge vary widely in interest and skill, and consider formal order and organization a potential hindrance to the sincerity of their quest.

More notable seekers tend to fade away into obscurity rather than vie for prominence, and are sought out by ruler and merchant alike for their wisdom.

Generally speaking, the more knowledge a seeker has obtained, the more difficult they are to find.

Among Civilization

Those who accept positions in civilization tend to do so for practical purposes, such as the need for dwelling while they ponder their tome, or to provide themselves with access to horses or ships to field their next search.
